You can master English without leaving home, you just need the right method and consistency. Here is what really works.
1. Immersion through media
Watch series and films in English, with English subtitles, not Polish ones. Listen to podcasts on the way to work or school. BBC Learning English, Everyday English and TED Talks are free sources of materials.
2. Spaced repetition
Apps such as Anki let you create flashcards with new vocabulary and repeat them at optimal time intervals. It is the scientifically most effective method of memorising words.
3. Regular conversations
Understanding and reading are one thing, speaking is a separate skill. Practise it with native speakers or a tutor. Even 30 minutes of conversation a week gives noticeable effects after a month.
4. Tutoring, when is it worth it?
Studying on your own has its limits. An English tutor speeds up progress, because they:
- Correct pronunciation mistakes you cannot hear yourself
- Adapt the material to your goal (the matura, IELTS, business conversation)
- Give motivation and the structure that is missing when studying alone
5. Realistic expectations
Level A2 → B2 with regular study (1 lesson a week + 30 minutes a day) is about 12–18 months. There is no shortcut.
